the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples
live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food
with `unclean' hands?"

the Pharisees and the scribes put the question to him, Why do your disciples
not keep the rules of the fathers, but take their bread with unwashed hands?

they came to him with one who had no power of hearing and had trouble in
talking; and they made a request to him to put his hands on him.

they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;

spit, and touched his tongue;

looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be
opened.

looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, "Ephphatha!"
(which means, "Be opened!").

looking up to heaven, he took a deep breath, and said to him, Ephphatha, that
is, Be open.

looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be

much the more a great deal they published it;

commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept
talking about it.

request, so much the more they made it public.

were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he
maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
¡iNIV¡jPeople
were overwhelmed with amazement. "He has done everything well,"
they said. "He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."
¡iBBE¡jAnd
they were overcome with wonder, saying, He has done all things well: he even
gives back the power of hearing and the power of talking to those who have
been without them.
¡iASV¡jAnd
they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he
maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
